Dress Shirt Collar Styles /
HOW TO WEAR IT
Although most purists will defend that a full cutaway collar should be worn buttoned with a tie, its popularity comes from the fact it looks just as stunning when worn unbuttoned. As a rule of thumb, the wider the spread, the larger the tie knot required to frame the collar so make sure you’ve got your knot game up to date. Another important aspect of the cutaway collar is that it draws the line of sight outwards, giving the impression of a broader neck and facial anatomy.

Background
The full cutaway collar is a style that emerged in select affluent circles in England during the early 20th century as designers began exploring more extreme collar spreads. At that time, it was almost always been paired with a wider tie knot (i.e. full windsor) as part of an ensemble. The cutaway collar were also seen / worn more by those in fashion progressive groups.
